So, we ordered this a few weeks ago via FAT BEATS and it finally showed up this weekend. It’s a 180 gram limited Silver pressing – 1000 copies printed. Originally I had owned this on cassette but somewhere along the long beaten path of life it took an L.
Can not say that it’s an overly slept on album, however I will say that it certainly has been lost in the basement of hip hop. Being that it was released the summer of 89’, over 30yrs ago, The D.O.C.’s ‘No One Can Do It Better’ is a damn near flawless piece of production perfection. Produced by Eazy E & Dr. Drew (*noting that all members of N.W.A. at the time played their part in the overall product), it is nothing shy of a bottle of west coast rap’s finest wine!
The D.O.C. came hard outta the Ruthless Records camp with a heavy lyrical style like no other. A dark gritty verbal tone complimented with that west side funkadelic undertone, NO ONE CAN DO IT BETTER is a timeless curated collection of raw rap.
It’s debut single, “It’s Funky Enough” was released both as a cassette single and on wax. It spent 18 weeks on the US Top Rap Songs chart, including four at #1. The album went certified Gold 3 months after its release and finally garnered Platinum status in 1994.
In November of 1989, The D.O.C. was in a serious car accident that left him with severe injuries including a crushed larynx that inevitably altered his voice. He would continue to write a good portion of songs for both N.W.A. and Eazy E. The D.O.C. would not put out another album until 1996.
Undeniably, NO ONE CAN DO IT BETTER is a Certified Classic release in the history of hip hop music.
